Academic Paper
November 2018
"The Aesthetics of Unionization: Sudie Crusenberry's Scrapbooks as Folk Art" is a paper that I wrote for my Folk Art class in the fall of 2018. This paper draws on archival research and explores scrapbooks as assemblage and as the material culture of a unionization movement. I presented a shortened version of this paper at the IU/OSU Student Folklore Conference in Bloomington, Indiana in February 2019.
Grant Proposal
March 2019
In Spring 2019, I submitted a Transcription and Indexing Grant proposal to the Kentucky Oral History Commission (KOHC) at the Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) to index the Lou Tate and the Little Loomhouse Oral History Project collection. This proposal was accepted and I was awarded a grant in May 2019.
Transcription
December 2017
This is a transcription I completed of an interview I conducted in the fall of 2017 with Drew Rogers, owner of Bluegrass Vineyard in Smiths Grove, Ky. This interview traces Rogers' interest in making wine, the wine making process, and the steps he had to take to open a winery in a formerly dry county.
ACADEMIC PAPER
November 2017
In Fall 2017, I wrote a rhetorical analysis of the media's narrative portrayals of the Bears Ears National Monument controversy titled "The Bears Ears National Monument Controversy: Native Claims, Land Use, and the Potential Role of Folklorists in Shaping the Debate." I presented a shortened version of this paper at the American Folklore Society (AFS) Annual Meeting in Buffalo, New York in October 2018.
VIDEO
December 2018
In addition to creating flyers and social media graphics for the Kentucky Museum, I planned, wrote scripts for, filmed, and edited promotional and informational videos. This particular video was used leading up to the Spring 2019 semester to encourage Western Kentucky University faculty to utilize the museum as a resource in their classes.
Digital Walking tour
August 2018
This link directs you to a Digital Walking Tour of Bardstown, Kentucky called "A Walk Through Time." During my time as an intern to the Historic Preservation Coordinator at the City of Bardstown in the summer of 2018, I assisted in researching, writing, troubleshooting, and editing this walking tour.
NRHP Nomination
December 2018
In Fall 2018, as part of my Vernacular Architecture course, I worked with Delainey Bowers and Kate McElroy to conduct fieldwork, documentation, and research in order to complete a National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) nomination for Boyce General Store in Alvaton, Kentucky.
Website
November 2018
In Fall 2018, my Vernacular Architecture class documented the building of Stickwork, an art installation on Western Kentucky University's campus designed by Patrick Dougherty. In addition to conducting interviews with volunteers and taking photos, the class also designed a website. I edited all aspects of the final site with classmate Delainey Bowers.
Lesson Plan
April 2018
As a mini-internship for my Appalachian Culture and Folklife class in the spring of 2018, I worked with Pine Mountain Settlement School and Theresa Osborne of the Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKCTC) to update the Storytelling curriculum within the settlement school's Environmental Education program. I created new objectives, summarized stories, and connected learning outcomes to the Kentucky Academic Standards.
Fieldnotes
December 2017
These are fieldnotes I wrote in the fall of 2017 after attending the Horse Cave Heritage Festival. These fieldnotes focus primarily on one of the festival's narrative stages presented by the Kentucky Folklife Program and the WKU Department of Folk Studies and Anthropology.
